In the very first chapter of One Piece, Luffy says that he's going to show Shanks' crew how tough he is. This is a subtle and truly genius bit of foreshadowing to 2 panels later when Luffy tries to show how tough he is by giving himself a scar. Goda truly plans every little detail miles ahead.
