Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea after Sicily. It is an autonomous region of Italy. They renamed their territory the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. It was reconfigured in the name of the current Italian Republic in 1946. Its area is 24,100 square kilometers.
