Almost all terms used worldwide for tea belong to three large groups of words: Te, cha and chai. The Chinese Cha spread to the West by country via the Silk Road. The main ports in China were in Fujian Province and Taiwan, where many people speak Min Nan, meaning Te instead of Cha.
