Canadian Aviation Electronics' Magnetic Anomaly Detection-Extended Role (MAD-XR) sensor is used on antisubmarine warfare aircraft and consists of a highly sensitive magnetometer which can sense changes in the earth's magnetic field due to metallic objects in the vicinity at approximately 1200 metres
