On the night of 16 February 1804, Captain Stephen Decatur led a small detachment of United States Marines from the USS Intrepid to the stranded USS Philadelphia and overpowered the Tripolitan sailors aboard. The Marines then set fire to Philadelphia, denying her use by the enemy. [3407 x 5033]
